On Tuesday morning my wife gave birth to Chloe Louise. Cue the sleepless nights and weary days. Can't wait.

Mum and baby are both fine.

See you all in March!

Blog EntryWee winter project continued. Jan 21, '08 3:54 PM

It started life as a half done Raleigh Equpie single speed hack, battled for on Ebay and acquired for under a hundred quid.

I immediately set to work with an angle grinder and chisel to rid it of any excess metal and protrusions. Next came nearly 3 weeks of graft with the nitromors...I'll never do that again.

4 coats of primer, 4 of gloss black( they'd run out of olive green and I'm impatient) and 3 coats of lacquer later and she was ready to reassemble. A new black headset was all that was needed to make her road worthy, however... I splashed out on some profile base bars and a cyclocross brake lever for to finish the minimalist look. A couple of stickers and some bar tape later and hey presto.

     One fast, fun hack.

Just got to get me some muscles now.

As some of you may or may not have noticed I haven't been out much recently. Motivation has been very low, so I've taken on a little winter project to get cycling back on my mind. And on that note.....does anyone have a spare brake lever in their stores they would like to part with for a small fee. I'm after a front mtb or bmx cable type, to fit a 25.8mm bar. Doesn't need to be fancy, but the smaller the better.

Might see you in the new year!

What a hard ride. The route was harder than last years, with more climbing in a shorter distance, but the downs were well worth it, as the blurred image will testify. In the words of Gordon Effin Ramsey

"50mph....done!"

I'll see if I can do the whole route without getting off next week.

Anyone from the Kettering area fancy braving the elements and riding over to the SIS presentation at Neils shop in Harbro tonight? I'll be leaving from Kettering at around 6ish.

Graham and myself are going to the peaks on Sat, July 7th for a rece ride. We're testing the route for a charity ride we are doing the following weekend. Anyone who fancies a spin, let me know and we'll try to arrange the least amount of cars to riders etc. Last years route took in about 1600m of climbing, so it will be pretty testing, but its always a nice ride out.
We'll look to be in Castleton for 9am and ride out from there.

My brother in law is after some wheels to ride to work and back on. Anything will be considered, as long as it's cheap(or free). Have a look behind your sheds and garages, and let me know if there's anything out there that might fit the bill. I will collect if needed.

What is it with me. I have broken yet another saddle. Thats 3 in 15 months. Do my bathroom scales deceive me, or am I buying rubbish. Fizik seats feel nice, but don't last, and the other bodyfit(who) unit was a winter trainer, but faired no better. Please don't tell me I need  Brooks leather beast.

Finally entered, took part in and completed my first fun run. And true to the rumours, it wasn't much fun. I felt pretty sick for most of it, and it still hurts now. However I got a half decent finish and beat the guys from the vegetarian running club. Woo Hoo. Might even try another sometime

After a considerable break I am turning the pedals again...slowly. A couple of rides to work and a spin with Shaggy at the weekend has rekindled my love of pedaling. Winter tyres are on, lights are charged and all is good, apart from the woeful fitness. Still, got plenty of time to work on that. A ride at Cannock on Saturday should blow the junk from my lungs, although I'm not over optimistic about racking up big miles. Might even get out on a Tuesday ride soon. Watch this space.

After my dismal attempt at a trail quest I'm going to try and redeem myself at this weekends short course TT from Bringhurst. I rode the route today, and it seems to go up more than down. Still, it is a bit shorter than the usual wednesday course, so maybe they'll cancel out. Time will tell

Another hot night, another PB. Any on line advice greatly recieved......why can I put together a half decent time trial, but can't ride in anger on a friday night mtb race?
